The doyen of smart British cookery with a modern twist, Gary Rhodes' amiable style has kept viewers returning to his television series' for the past 10 years.

Gary studied at Broadstairs’ Catering College, Kent where he won Student of the Year award. On leaving college he secured a position at the Amsterdam Hilton but was hit by a tram and had to undergo brain surgery, a life-changing event which made him determined to succeed in his vocation.
Gary came back to England and worked for various London restaurants including the Greenhouse in Mayfair, where he developed his reputation for British classics such as oxtail and bread and butter pudding. It was here he acquired a Michelin star and at this time he filmed his first TV series Rhodes Around Britain.
Awarded an OBE in 2006 his growing empire includes Rhodes 24 in London, Arcadian Rhodes on the P&O superliner, Cumberland Rhodes and Rhodes Calabash, in Grenada. His TV work equally as successful with slots hosting Masterchef and appearances on Hell's Kitchen, the Great British Menu, and Saturday Cooks.
His relationship with Good Food Channel has been long and fruitful, fronting series of Local Food Hero and travelling the globe to film Rhodes Across India, Rhodes Across China, Rhodes Across the Caribbean and Rhodes Across Italy
Gary lives in Kent with his wife Jennie and their two sons, Samuel and George.
Good Food Channel's Amanda Nicolas went to Rhodes 24 to meet the man himself, Gary Rhodes, to find out why he's keeping his produce local...
"For me it's all about the good old days when you had your greengrocer, butcher, and fishmonger at the top of the road. Sadly it's less common today but the places that are still going are the ones with real dedication and passion for food," says Michelin-starred chef, Gary Rhodes.
Which is why Gary has taken on the task of leading Good Food Channel's hunt for the nation's Local Food Hero 2006.
It's clear that many share Gary's view: this summer, people up and down the country are nominating and voting for their Food Heroes in their community - from cheesemongers to cafés and butchers to box schemes.
"There are so many great flavours all over the UK. I love all the different regional specialities - as I've lived most my life in Kent I adore the Kentish apples and asparagus," says Gary. "But looking at this nation you won't get better in season than the Scottish raspberry, but then there's also the Welsh lamb and leeks, as well as the lovely fish and shellfish from Cornish waters.
"It's great to see so many people supporting the places responsible for putting this great food on our plates. I'd love to see great British fare reintroduced on every table. Thai food and Italian food is nice and light for summer, but does it hold the same depth of flavour? No, not for me," says Gary.
His call for quality British food couldn't come at a better time with research showing that many British dishes are dying out, including the Bath Chaps, Jugged Hare and Brawn.
"When I'm judging the Local Food Hero Awards I'll be looking for somebody who believes in what they're presenting, who takes the best of British food and produces something really special," says Gary.
