Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3-4 cups confectioners powdered sugar, sifted
¼ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Up to 4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream

1Beat the butter. Place the butter in a mixing bowl. Beat it using a stand mixer or hand mixer until it becomes light and fluffy.

2Add the sugar. Place three cups of powdered sugar in the bowl with the butter. Beat the ingredients on low until the sugar is incorporated, then increase the speed and keep beating.
At this point you may add 1/2 cup cocoa powder to make chocolate buttercream frosting if you wish.
Add 1/2 cup cinnamon to make cinnamon frosting.

3Add the vanilla, salt, and 2 tablespoons cream. Continue beating the frosting as you add the last few ingredients.

4Finish the frosting. Keep mixing until everything is well incorporated and the frosting is light, fluffy and spreadable.
If the frosting seems too runny, add the remaining cup of powdered sugar.
If the frosting is too stiff, add the remaining tablespoon of milk.

Tips
It is better to have the frosting a little too soft, rather than stiff, as the frosting spreads more easily this way.
The frosting does not work without powdered sugar because it needs to melt.
